Kanha School of Dance is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and performing Bharata Nrityam- an ancient Indian classical dance form. It was established in 2011 in San Jose, CA. It was founded by Ashwini Srivatsan, the artistic director of the company. The company strives to bring the eastern tradition of Bharata Nrityam to the west. Dance, music and culture are an integral part of building a community that one can feel a strong connection with and this is Kanha's mission. At Kanha we use our gamut of talents to make people feel part of a larger community - one they can count on, stand by and feel inspired.

Throughout my years as a professional ballet dancer, this school was always a dream of mine… In that dream, I envisioned a quaint boutique of a ballet school that would provide a creative dance education experience for children and a place where students would be urged to fully exercise their imaginations as well as their bodies. Today, I am proud to say that my dream has been realized in each and every one of our Tutu Schools, all independently owned by lovingly chosen directors, and all boasting exceptional teachers and a carefully crafted curriculum. We never take for granted the significance of our role in introducing children to the beauty and intrinsic magic of ballet, and that – as much as my original dream of Tutu School - remains at the heart of everything we do.

Based in the Bay Area, California, we are a group of students and young working professionals who are passionate at representing our Punjabi culture at an international level. Since 2006, our goal has been to bring Bhangra to a mainstream audience. We perform world wide as well as teach Bhangra classes to our local Bay Area community since 2009. We use Bhangra as a vessel to help us stay connected to our culture. We've been given an amazing platform to spread Punjabi culture and hope to continue to do so for many years to come.

Dheem Thara Dance School was founded in 2013 by Sangeetha Neelankavil in Pleasanton, California. She currently has a school of about 30 students, of varying ages and levels. She focuses on unique choreography, technique, and abhinaya (dance expression) in order to help students deliver well-rounded performances. By involving her school in various ethnic events (Marathi Mandal, Telugu Saradaga O Sayantram, Hindi Diwali Dhamaka, Maya Bazar, FIA, Livermore Hindu Temple, Malayalam, Chinese and American), she seeks to further spread the joy of Indian culture among the Tri-Valley community. Sangeetha has learned 3 forms of Classical Indian Dance for decades under various gurus. Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam consist of her main studies, but she has been influenced by Kathak and Folk culture as well. Currently, she is focusing on the instruction of Bharatnatyam and Semi-Classical Dance (classically-based with influences of Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi and Mohiniyattam). Sangeetha’s vision is to inspire every one of her students to develop a passion for classical Indian dancing and preserve the culture for decades to come.

I am a Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher, and choreographer from India based in San Francisco for the past 4 years. I have been teaching kids this art form for over 9 years in India. My technical training of this art form was strengthened after having done my bachelor's degree from Nalanda Nritya Kala Mahavidyalaya. I believe dance cannot be learnt just by itself, so it is important for the kids to understand these various - Body strengthening - Prayers - Story-telling from Mythology and how it can be exhibited in dance - Talam It is a constant learning for me as a teacher as well. As much as a student gains from a class the teacher has learnt something new as well. It is a way of giving back to the cultural society from which I have gained so much. I am currently also training under Guru Shri Vaibhav Arekar from India and travel with his dance company across the globe and currently working as a freelancer with Nava Dance Theatre in San Francisco. I am available for private classes during the day or evenings (on an appointment basis).

She touches everyone’s hearts and souls everywhere she goes with her sharp expressions and grace. Witnessing her dance is like seeing the ancient temple sculptures come to life. When she performs, she takes you on a journey through the story she is portraying. Aside from being a gifted dancer, she has brought tears and smiles to people’s faces through her brilliant choreography. She is also an exceptional and nurturing teacher who has been teaching for the past 15 years. She teaches her students how to mature not only as dancers but also as confident and passionate leaders ready to take on the world. She influences her students to strive for greatness in the field of dance and in life. The Prayukti Dance School is an initiative started by Nitya to share her art, training and values. It also serves as a way to promote and retain art and culture in the Bay Area. Nitya currently has her dance school - Prayukti in the California Bay Area where she practices and teaches. She also works as the Programming Director of the Raadha Kalpa Dance Company and handles all of the company’s foreign tours and programs. In her formative years, she trained under Guru Suma Mani, Chennai and trained in the Vazhoor style of bharatanatyam. A graceful, enthusiastic and passionate dancer, Nitya completed her arangetram (debut, solo performance) in the year 2003 under Smt Suma following which she did many group and solo performances in Chennai’s esteemed platforms like Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Narada Ghana Sabha, Kamaraj Hall, RR Sabha to name a few. Nitya’s interest and passion for movement and dance led her to pursue the Post Diploma program in Movement Arts and Media from the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts, where she graduated with honors. In this course, she was exposed to various kinds of movement vocabulary like Contemporary Dance, Kalaripayattu, Chaau and Ballet. She also gained an understanding of many other subjects that support dance and performance like Stage and Lighting, Pedagogy and Approach to Choreography through the course of this program. Nitya has also done a few short courses/workshops in theatre and acting under some eminent names like Anmol Vellani, Prakash Belawadi and Ronlin Foreman. Her love for the arts also got her involved with the LshVa Art Space, Bangalore for over 2 years where she played an integral role as an Art Manager in organizing various art events, festivals, classes and workshops. This led to interactions with many artists and spreading the love of arts to the community.
