Subhashini with her mother Shyamala’s guidance began her vocal training at the age of five. She was fine tuned by Guru Vidwan Ramachandra Rao. Concurrently, her Veena training began under the guidance of her Grand Father, Vidwan Gopinatha Das (founder of PAMPA) and continued with Smt. Usha Shastry. Subhashini gave her first stage performance at the age of seven for the Japanese International Music festival in India. As a child, she accompanied renowned artists such as Dr. Balamurali Krishna in his well-known musical album ‘Narasimha Suprabhatha,’ composed by Vidwan Gopinatha Das. She also had a great opportunity of composing and performing a song for a popular Hollywood music producer Christopher Franke. Subhashini has collaborated and created fusion music with a flavor of Karnatic, Jazz and Blues in collaboration with renowned Sitarist Ashwin Batish and also performed with Super stars Shankar Mahadevan and Vijay Prakash. Subhashini started the Bay Area center for Shankar Mahadevan Academy in 2015. Subhashini is a well versed ‘artist’ in the field of Carnatic classical vocal music, string instrument Veena. Additionally the academy offers training for music certification program that will get you certified and earn academic college credits. She won second place at the All India Radio Instrumental (Veena) Competition in 2007 and has given several performances all around Chennai. Born and raised in Chennai, Raji was surrounded with dance and music that instilled fondness for performing arts. She values her rich cultural heritage and wishes to spread the beauty of the melodious divine instrument - Veena to diverse cultural background and promote next generation of artists by providing creative and encouraging learning platform for aspiring students. Apart from being a passionate Vainika and a trained Indian Classical Dancer, Rajalakshmi has been a yoga practitioner since the age of 8.
