Swaraswati is a platform for students of all ages to come together and discover the wondrous world of Hindustani classical vocal music. Swaraswati School of Music was created in 2013 in the Bay Area by Saneyee Purandare Bhattacharjee, in order to impart the wonderful knowledge of Hindustani classical vocal music among children and adults. Classes are currently being offered at three locations: Dublin, Fremont, and Sunnyvale. Students attend weekly lessons with Saneyee herself, as well as guests teachers collaborating with Swaraswati. They are given the opportunity to prepare and appear for examinations administered locally in the Bay Area by Gandharva Mahavidhyalay and Bharati Vidyapeeth. Additionally, Swaraswati School has an annual recital in which students have the opportunity to perform in front of a wide audience.

I love teaching music – I have been teaching Carnatic music for about 10 years in the Bay Area. Classical music, shlokas and bhajans are a great way of imparting India’s rich culture to kids at an early age. With me, you'll start with the basics, work your way through Geethams, and advance all the way to Varnams and Kritis. I also teach Shlokas and Bhajans. Affordable classes available with flexible timings. I believe that anyone can learn to sing with a little bit of perseverance and practice. It is my job as a teacher to set their expectations higher than they think they can achieve and inspire them to succeed. I’ll diligently work with your child and provide them with everything they need to find their voice. I teach kids ages 5 years or older. Adults are welcome. Classes last about 30-45 minutes depending on the age and experience level. I offer private and group lessons. No prior experience is required; anyone can start learning. If you are an absolute beginner, we’ll start with vocal exercises and simple songs. If you’ve already had some training in classical music, we’ll move forward from where you are.

Hamsa Raghuvir is a versatile Carnatic vocalist, well groomed by the legendary violin maestro Padma Bhushan Sri. Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. She is the daughter of Dr. Karaikudi S. Subramanian, who is the founder of Brhaddhvani (brhaddhvani.org) and a 9th generation veena player of the Karaikudi tradition. Hamsa has been teaching Carnatic vocal in the US for the past 7 years and has now relocated to South Bay (Los Gatos area). Carnatic vocal classes offered at the intermediate and advanced levels for students who wish to specialize in Lalgudi baani or further their classical training. As a privileged prime vocal disciple of Sri. Lalgudi G. Jayaraman for 14 years, her understanding of the myriad aesthetic expressions in his compositions is unique. Children Classes having gone through a true Gurukulam system, Hamsa has the techniques and pedagogy to benefit children. Material supplemented with COMET - Correlated Objective Music Education and Training - a unique music program developed at Brhaddhvani for children through a series of creative books. Children vocal classes offered through Play-Way method of understanding the concepts of music leading its appreciation - Make children learn and present “pitch- laya” perfect authentic rendition of songs.
