Bharatanatyam Dance Class in Jersey City, NJ

Starting January 7th, I will begin provide dance classes at Skylark on the Hudson in Newport (25 River Drive South, Jersey City 07310). I specialize in Bollywood fusion, incorporating classical (Bharatnatyam), hip hop and contemporary moves. For every new song taught, I'll be providing a lyrics sheet including hindi lyrics with english translations so the kids have a better understanding of what they are dancing to. Vidushi Sonal Jhaveri feels honored to be a disciple of Padmashree Vasundara Doraswamy, who is danseuse par excellence and a venerated guru of Bharatanatyam from the heavenly city of Mysore, India; under whom she's been trainning since 14 years. Sonal has completed her Bharatanatyam post-Vidhwat degree from Karnataka, India, and has also had basic vocal trainning in Hindustani and Carnatic music. Through years of experience in dancing and teaching, Sonal has been able to guide and motivate her students in an effective and comprehensive manner in various forms of dances such as Classical, Folk and Bollywood. Khushi Dance Academy's mission is to teach students discipline, concentration, focus, positive attitude, unity and above all, awareness to Indian culture through classical dance forms. The techniques learned through Bharatanatyam are essential in becoming a versatile, graceful, and strong dancer. A key goal for Khushi Dance Academy is to instill in its dancers an enthusiasm and desire to have a positive influence within their community. We train students for full margam of Bharatanatyam and also make them capable of choreographing on their own. Khushi Dance Academy is committed to the art of dance. Whether a student is dancing for fun or planning to enter the arts on a professional level, we are here to guide along the way. Marga Dance Company will commence online Bharathanatyam dance classes for US residents via zoom. I take classes for the age group 6 and above. Children as well as grown ups. Upper age limit is based on interest and fitness of the person wanting to learn. I have revised my fee structure. It is 25 dollars per person for a group of not more than four persons. And 35 dollars for individual classes on one to one basis. I teach for beginners as well as advanced students.

Shweta is the one of the most distinguished Indian Classical Music teachers in Jersey City, NJ. She specializes in Hindustani Classical Music Lessons, both Vocal and Instrumental. In 2021, Shweta completed her Master of Arts in Performing Arts (Vocal) from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University in Surat. Currently, Shweta teaches both Hindustani vocal and keyboard at Sur Sangat to students of all ages and backgrounds. She teaches students both in person and online, and has students from all over the country, including California, Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, and Michigan. Sur Sangat is dedicated to the promotion and propagation of Indian classical arts. As a lifelong learner of the arts, our founder understands the importance of keeping the Indian art styles alive, especially abroad. Art is the foundation of our culture, as it has been kept alive through song, dance, and theater. Our scriptures have placed great importance on the 64 Lalith Kalas, with music, dance, and theater ranking as the highest. They connect us with each other, with nature, with ourselves, and with the divine. With this in mind, Sur Sangat’s mission is to not only spread awareness for the Indian classical arts, but also to teach the next generation, so they can keep the arts alive. Shweta Pandya is a lifelong learner of the Indian classical arts, including Hindustani Sangeet, Bharatanatyam, and Kathak. Shweta Pandya is a singer, performer, and aspiring choreographer located in New Jersey, originally from Detroit, MI. She has been training in the Indian classical arts for over 20 years. Shweta is trained in Hindustani Sangeet (Vocal and Instrumental), Bharatanatyam, and Kathak. In addition to furthering her musical education, Shweta also trained in Kathak under the guidance of Guru Smt. Smruti Vora at Noopur Nritya Academy, Surat. While under her guidance, Shweta completed her Praveshika Purna (Third Year) in Kathak from Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal.

I offer Bharathanatyam and fusion dance classes for students and dance enthusiasts of all ages and experience levels. I am trained in the Kalakshetra style of Bharathanatyam and I have over 15 years of experience in Bharathanatyam with over 7 years of experience teaching dance to children and adults. Priti has over 18 years of experience in teaching dance and academics to 5000+ students, 4-80 yrs of age along with television and film choreography, reality shows, she has performed in over 15 countries. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, with a degree in Physical Therapy, Priti always followed her heart and immersed in her passion for dance and education. She was featured in Jhalak Dikhla Ja (Dancing with the Stars, India) as a Pro and has worked as Creative Strategist and Choreographer with Madhuri Dixit-Nene on 'DancewithMadhudri' and TataSky.
