Summertime Pet Care

Calling them “dog days” is not for just nothing: Be it more outdoor time, just indoor chilling at home or even hiking and traveling, summer is one of the best times to enjoy with your pet.

Take it from someone who has been there done that, while I lazy on the beach in summer or bring out the barbecue grill, nothing makes that fun time more better than sharing it with my pet dog. But dogs, or any pet for that matter, need special care during summertime. Here are some Summertime Pet Care tips that I follow to keep my pets healthy while we have fun in the sun…

Just like humans, dogs or pets in general, get dehydrated during summertime due to the scorching heat. So make sure your dog has unlimited access to fresh water especially during summer days. Also make sure your pet dog has access to shade when you let them outside.

If the summer days are hot for you, you should know that it's even hotter for your dog, so make sure your dog has a means of cooling off during the summer.

While taking your dog out for a walk, it is advisable to go during the cooler hours of the day. Also try to keep off of the hot surfaces because they can burn your dog's paws.

One other most important pet care to remember during summer time is, ‘never leave your dog in the car’. The car radiates a lot of heat and dogs cannot withstand that.

Also, during summer days consider clipping or shaving off your dog’s long coats. If you don’t prefer that, you can always apply sunscreen on your dog's skin if she or he has a thin coat.

Summer can really pose a real risk for our pets, so take that extra step to protect your pet when the mercury rises.
