During the following years I have received extensive training in Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kathakali, Ottanthulal and Carnatic Music. My passion to delve deep into the technique and history of Indian classical dance has led me to pursue a PhD in Dance at Texas Woman’s University. My research focuses on the movement vocabulary of Indian classical dance after the British colonial era.My passion for dance, music and teaching has paved the path to the formation of Upasana Kalakendra in 2008.

Nupur Center for Performing Arts (NCPA) was founded by Mrs. Rupa who has a Masters degree in classical dance from University of Bombay. She started the center in 1988 in Mumbai, India, with a vision to expose the richness of Indian culture and heritage through the medium of dance. She continued her passion with the same zeal after migrating to USA in 2002 and is helping in enriching our next generation of Indo American students learn this divine art and understand the deep rooted culture behind it. Ms. Rupa has been imparting her knowledge of the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam successfully for the past 30 years. At Nupur students are given a solid base in Bharatanatyam, a classical dance style from the southern state of India. Folk dances of India, Kuchipudi and semi classical fusion is also introduced eventually. Ms. Rupa has taken on a lifelong mission to expose the richness of Indian culture and heritage through the medium of dance. To her students, she is the giver of identity, self pride, cultural enlightenment, grace, discipline, and celebration of beauty, friendship, and admiration. Anupama Iyengar has been teaching dance for the last 18 years. She teaches Bharatnatyam and Bollywood dances. Anupama Iyengar has teached in India for many kids and her students have won state level and district level competitions. She has teached in San Diego for 12 years and performed in BalBoa every year and Leading and Representing State Karnataka. Then moved to Columbus Ohio. She provide services for Zumba bollywood classes,personal choreography,special occasions,parties.

Sravanthi was born on 1980 and hails from a Music Family.She started learning Bhartnatyam and Kuchipudi at the age of seven form the Guru Akundi Ramakrishna and gave her Aramgretam within a year at Andhra University Conventional Hall Vizag. She was also fortunate to learn and expertise her Skills from various gurus like S.K.Rajaratnam Pillai Madras, Chandraramurthy (Deciple of Dr Vempati Chinna Satyam) Vizag and Pasumarthy Ramalinga Sastry Cental University of Hyderabad.She also had an oppurtunity to learn Odissi dance style from Mrs Pranathi Misra Vizag.Sravanthi from then started her journey as a performing artist. At present she has 26 Years of Experience in various dance styles across the world performed more than 500 programs solo,Solo Dance Dramas and Group Ballets in India and Abroad and won many awards and rewards to her credit.

I am based in houston, tx and have more than 15 years of performing dance experience and 5+ years of teaching experience in Kathak. I did my masters in kathak (Style: Lucknow gharana) and learned from Smt Savita Godbole (Direct disciple of Late Lacchu maharaj) and later with Dr. Suchitra Harmarlkar. Over the past decade and a half I have won numerous awards from various autonomous cultural institutions in India including a National Scholarship (awarded for excellence in kathak) from the ministry of tourism and culture (Govt of India). I also presented solo classical dance in Houston and Philadelphia last year. My biggest achievement came before coming to Houston when my talent was recognized by 'President of India' Smt Pratibha Patil. Presently I take classes in Houston, Katy, Sugarland & Cypress and also planning to start cyber classes through Skype / Google in other locations.

Bharathadarshana in Houston is specialized in Bharatanatyam Dance Classes. They are servicing at the Houston Metro area. They do expertise in Kalakshetra Style. They provide certificates for the students who finish the course successfully. Bharathadarshana can be reached on all days of the week but the class hours differ according to the days. On weekdays they can be reached from 8:00 to 22:00, on Saturday from 8:00 to 13:00 and on Sunday from 8:00 to 19:00. Shambhavi Dandekar and is training in the Benaras Gharana of Kathak. She hopes to give her students the same authentic training that she is fortunate to receive from her guru. Through discipline, focus, and fun Ekta hopes to share her passion and love for Kathak with all of her students. SSD is certified to conduct diploma examinations in Kathak. Students of SSD will be trained according to the syllabus determined by Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University in Pune, India. Students will be evaluated periodically and encouraged to take examinations annually.
