She was initiated to Chess at an early age by her mother, who was actively involved in the local chess circuit. By playing in several open tournaments at a young age, amidst a thriving Mysore chess community, Kavyashree was able to make quick progress. A few of her early achievements included winning the State Women's Chess Championships, representing the state in the National level for 14 times, getting crowned as a state champion in all possible age categories for a decade, winning an individual medal at the National Inter-University Championship, and finishing with silver in All India Round Table Chess zonal.
