The Center was established in 1975, at a time when seniors were being stripped of their identification and left in a hospital emergency rooms and on the streets, because the burden of caring was too great. The Center is a private 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization, and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by the law. To provide a quality, coordinated system of therapeutic and supportive services that enhances and/or maintains maximum independence, dignity and care to help frail, vulnerable, functionally impaired District of Columbia residents, age 60 and over, remain in their homes and communities.
