Aarthi started learning Bharatanatyam at the age of 6, from Mrs. Madhavi Chandrasekar in Tiruchirapalli, Tamilnadu, India. She went on to do her Arangetram at the age of 15. At 18, she started with her second guru, Dr. Srividhya Sundaresan and performed her Nattuvangam Arangetram at the age of 21. She continues to learn and seek mentorship from her guru Dr. Srividhya Sundaresan. Under the guidance of both teachers, Aarthi has performed solo and as a group at different venues in South India. Narada Gana Sabha, Chennai; R.R Sabha, Trichy; Rockfort Temple, Trichy; Tirumalai Naickkar Mahal, Madurai; Meenakshi Amman Temple, Madurai and Natarajar Temple, Chidambaram are just to name a few places she has performed at. Under Mrs. Madhavi Chandrasekar's tutelage, Aarthi played pivotal roles like Andal, Devi & Valli in many dance ballets choreographed by her. Aarthi currently lives in the Del Sur neighborhood in San Diego, CA with her husband and 2 beautiful kids. She enjoys teaching Bharatanatyam to people who are interested in learning the art form & appreciate the rich cultural heritage.

She has specialized Abhinaya under Smt Dr. Vasundhara Doraiswamy and Smt Indumati Ganesh. She accomplished her Rangapravesha(Arrangetram) under the guidence of Smt Indumati Ganesh. Aparna is the only Bharatanatyam Guru in San Diego who traditionally trains the students in Naatyashastra with the theory of Rasa, Body language and its sub-tenchniques, chaaris , bhava, angahaara, Karnas, nritta hastas... She is bestowed with the title "Natya Tilakam" for her flawless rhythm, and flowing grace and powerful projections of the Abhinaya.
