Meet Mani Majumdar

"Smt. Mani Majumdar, a resident of Chicago has been learning music since the age of three. She started her vocal Hindustani Classical training from Pundit Tansen Pandey in Calcutta and continued it with Dr. Amiya Ranjan Banerjee of the Vishnupur Gharana.
At age five, she won first prize in Khayal in an All India Competition held in Bihar, where there were no categories for age. She also received a two-year National Merit Scholarship from the Indian Government. She received her Master's degree from the famed Rabindra Bharati University and was awarded the President of India Music Award (presented by Dr. Radhakrishnan) for scoring the highest grades in all three categories: Khayal, Dhrupad, and Thumri - a record yet to be broken!
She was a regular artiste in All India Radio as well as an invited artiste of All India Radio for their traveling concert series. She has performed in concerts with Alt Akbar Khan, Bhimsen Joshi, Sunanda Patnaik, to name a few and has also given concerts throughout the United States, Canada and abroad. She has performed and given lectures/demonstrations at various universities across North America.
Mrs. Majumdar has been teaching Hindustani Classical (Khayal, Dhrupad) and Bhajans in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago for over 40 years. She provides both individual and group instruction either in-person or online. She currently teaches students in the Chicagoland area (in-person), in various cities across the United States and in the United Kingdom (online).
