Not all nannies are physically and mentally equipped to deal with the stresses and requirements demanded by such children; you need to look for a nanny that you can trust with such children.

1) The best nanny for your child with special needs would be one that has experience that similar to the one wanted by your child; all nannies would not be equipped to deal with the situation.  Those having experience in particular afflictions such as various stages of autism or ADHD can prove to be excellent nannies. However it is to be realized that experience is a bonus, but it should definitely not fully account for your decision to select a childcare provider. 

2) Next asking the applicant right questions surrounding the specific need would give some insight if the candidate is the right fit. These questions should be about cover real-life daily routines and circumstances that you yourself had to deal to gauge the candidate’s answers against how you handled them. They might have a better solution than one you implemented.

3) Next it is important that the nanny you would select should have some knowledge dependent on the type of care that is needed; a caregiver for an autism child should have some knowledge of autism. A potential nanny that can produce that kind of knowledge and educational records is an ideal candidate. You shouldn’t have to train your nanny in order to care for your child.

4) Though you do not need a doctor as a nanny, it would be a bonus to select someone that has some kind of medical training.  Nannies that are perfecting their skills caring for special needs children usually have more than basic CPR abilities. Though desirable, the lack of medical knowledge should not dissuade you in selecting a candidate that has potential in other directions.

5) Background checks are very important for a nanny that would be working or even staying with you. It’s need supersedes even the candidate having a shining resume, perfect application, and extensive knowledge of your needs; a the background check can reinforce the potential nanny’s information about experience and education, which can put your mind at ease that you hired the right person for the job.

Lastly keeping these things in mind would help the nanny give your child with special needs a stable and safe environment. The last thing you need to have looming over your head is doubt that your nanny can be up to the task of caring for your child.
