What Qualities Should You Look For In Pet Sitters?

My friends and I attended a very interesting talk on the qualities that one had to look for in pet sitters. It was very necessary to look for a pet sitter whom one could trust and who possessed 5 main qualities; you would  then choose a reliable and responsible pet sitter. The speaker went on to elaborate the 5 important qualities of a pet sitter.

The 5 important qualities to look for in a pet sitter are:

1) He/she should be honest and passionate: Best pet sitters are honest and are very passionate about what they do; a dishonest and dispassionate pet sitter can never give the best care to the animals in his/her care. They may fail to call or give some excuse when something goes wrong. Pets that are in the hands of honest and responsible sitter would be cared and looked after well when something goes wrong.

2) A good pet sitter understands pet behavior: A good pet sitter understands the way pets behave and are very friendly with them. They should not only be familiar with the way dogs behave, but they should be ready to learn all about your dog's quirks. They know how they behave with other dogs and how to handle noise. Ideally, they should be familiar with your dog's personality, likes, dislikes, and fears before you hire them.

3) The pet sitter should be licensed, bonded and insured: This is very important from the point of view of safety for you and your pet. When a pet sitter is licensed, bonded, and insured, he shows others that he is serious about his business and also guarantees protection for both you and the sitter if something goes wrong.

4) He should be ready for emergencies: The pet sitter that your hire should be ready to attend to emergencies if something goes wrong. It is very essential that he/she has some basic medical training that includes first aid and CPR. They should be well planned to attend if something goes wrong and should be ready to call you and administer care to the pet. In addition they should follow the instructions given by you in attending to the pet for care and emergencies.

5) Flexibility is the final quality a pet sitter should have: Never hire a pet sitter that has a long list of things he/she will not do; this indicates that they are not ready to do the best for your pet. A pet sitter should not add extra charges to your bill by ending up doing something on their list of "no's". Truly a pet sitter you hire should be willing to follow exactly the instructions you gave him/her and offer the best care to your pet, especially in an emergency.

Last, but not the least all of us found the talk very interesting.
