What Are The Lovable Attributes Of A Mother
On Mother’s Day I attended a very interesting discussion on the loving attributes of a mother; the discussion started off with acknowledging that a child is the most prized possession of mothers and should be well cared for right from birth so that he/she becomes a reflection of how well you raised your child when he/she grew up.
Some lovable attributes of a mother:
a) Children desire affection, so showering them with love and affection is one of the best attributes of a mother. It is very necessary to start showering love and attention when young to build a loving relationship with your child for a lifetime.
b) One of the worst emotion a child could suffer is abandonment; ensure that you show your child you care, but avoid being too indulgent. Even if you are busy ensure that you spend quality time with them by taking them out on weekends, wake up early to make a decent breakfast and also read to young children at bedtime. Considering your child as a priority to give care.
c) Ensure that you spend some fun time with the children by making sure you also find out their likes, dislikes, the new trends and do things together.
d) Offer advice to your child, but also learn to be a good and empathic listener to your child; if you are a good listener, your child will feel more inclined to talk, vent and take advice from in future also.
e) It is great to love and care for your child, though it is wrong to be overbearing; being an embarrassing mum would distance the child from you. It is best for mothers to realize that even children need space and independence is an important part of growing up.
f) The next lovable attribute of a mother is being your child’s role model; you child will speak, act and dress as you do. So it is practice these attributes in front of your children. Mothers need to be an inspiration to their child and teach them how to be strong and move on in the most worst of situations.
g) It is great to spend quality time with the children and have fun; however it is equally important to be authoritative and set a clear boundary between being a parent and a friend. Children need to respect and listen to parents and stick to the disciplinary rules set by them.
h) Most parents need to be a good listener and advisor of the children, but it is equally important to give advice by putting yourself in your child’s shoes. Understand where he is coming from and combine it with your own personal life experiences where relevant.
i) One of the lovable attributes of a mother is being accepting; parents need to be amicable to the times and should not lecture the children as they could turn into rebels. Therefore, try as hard as you can to set aside your motherly feelings, and choose your battles.
There could however be other lovable attributes of mothers that could also be discussed; however the discussion ended with the note that raising children required hard work and patience on the part of the mother.
