Hope you enjoyed my articles written about “The complete guide for baby’s walking(birth to 1 year)” and “The complete guide for baby’s walking(1-2 years)”; I am sure you found them informative. As you must have understood that learning to walk is more than footwork; it has got all to do with developing strong muscles. I would now go into the complete walking guide of a baby who is between 2 to 3 years.

Kids between the ages of 2 to 3 years are very active walking, running, kicking and throwing; parents need to provide the chances for the child to practice and build their skills. You would find that children of that age will learn how to climb steps and get down, kick a ball and also be able to jump off one step.

You would find that your child between the ages of 2 to 2 ½ can not only go up the steps with your support or while holding onto the railing, but would also be comfortable with running and up for a game of tag or Ring-Around-the-Rosy.

As he/she grows and proceeds towards 3 years, your baby can not only jump off the ground with both feet, but can also zip left to right. Also he/she will be able to go up and down stairs alternating feet on each step. It is also worthwhile knowing that a kid at 3 is able to balance briefly on one foot, kick a ball forward, throw a ball overhand, catch a ball with stiff arms, and pedal a tricycle.

How you can improve the walking/movement skills of your 2-3 baby:
Spend quality time with your baby and give him/her age-appropriate active toys, such as balls, push and pull toys, and riding vehicles; this helps to gradually improve and refine his/her motor skills. You could introduce your child to Mommy-and-me programs that involve tumbling, dance, and general movement. All these opportunities would help provide lot of opportunities to be active in a safe environment.
