Story About Niki And Her Room!
Story About Niki And Her Room!
It happened seven years ago. We shifted to a new apartment, and she was insisting that her room be decorated with blue paint, blue cupboard and ofcourse a blue cot – I mean the linen. I was working and wanted to complete arraigning the entire home before I join back. A Hercules task indeed! Boxes of her cloths, tear bears, books, accessories were piled around her.
As usual, I read out parables and stories from her favorite story books. “The red riding hood” was her all-time favorite; she would listen with all attention and wonder how it happened. I remember reading to her “Sown white and seven dwarfs” - she would interrupt saying “Mom – Can you get me a dwarf”?
After she slept, I unpacked all the boxes, arranged all her clothes in her cup board, hung clothes that she plans to wear for the week, her favorite dolls had a beautiful carved shelf, her accessories found place in her dressing table which was attached to a chested draw. Heavens!!! you can’t’ track them; it took me almost to an hour to put them in place.
Fortunately, she was fast asleep. She loved a peacock painting, which her grand mom presented to her; I positioned it next to her bed. Her room looked perfectly blue and it was 3 in the morning. I wanted to catch up some sleep, so that I wake up before her, to capture the joy and reaction when she wakes up.
While at slumber; I found her hand tapping my cheeks, I jumped up….. “Mom” she said my room is all settled, it looks exactly the way I wanted it to be; wonder if God sent his angels to clean up my room. She was excited & I nodded
“Memories fade but thoughts do not”. Her room is added with new stuff…a laptop, kurtis, sling bags, a dozen of shoes – heels & flat, scarfs, different shades of jeans, rap around skits, accessories you name it. But still she holds on saying “Mom”- wake me up, hold my hand and always be there for me.
"A daughter may outgrow your lap, but she will never outgrow your heart". – This quote is very close to my heart.
