Some Foods Most Craved By Pregnant Women
Pregnancy is a phase when a woman craves for food items that she doesn’t when she is not pregnant; she has cravings for certain foods that is million times stronger than in ordinary women.
Foods pregnant women most crave for:
• Most pregnant women crave to chew on ice cubes; it is significant that those who chew on to ice cubes suffer from anemia that cause inflammation in the mouth and tongue. Ice helps to relieve this inflammation.
• Next pregnant women have a craving for spicy foods like curry or hot red peppers; quite interestingly these hot and spicy foods help the body to sweat and cool it down that is very useful during pregnancy.
• Some pregnant women crave for pickles; some believe that women low in sodium have this craving though there is no conclusive evidence. Some women like the crunch, some the vinegar and still others the refreshing taste.
• Lemon is craved for by many pregnant women; this craving for sour foods is because the taste buds change and you feel like shocking them with very sour or very spicy foods.
• Some pregnant women love to indulge in chocolates or any other sweet; chocolate makes them happy. There is an old wives tale that those women who crave for chocolate during pregnancy are carrying a girl. If you are too worried about indulging in chocolate you could satisfy your chocolate craving by putting a bit of low-fat chocolate syrup on fresh fruit.
• Pregnant women crave for fruits also; this is healthy for you and your baby. To boost Vitamin C as well as be cool and refreshed consume fruits like watermelon and grapes.
• It is quite common for pregnant women to crave for ice-cream because it is sweet, rich and creamy; a pregnant woman could spend all her time in the ice-cream parlor. However a healthier option would be to consume low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt topped with fresh fruits.
• Potato chips are craved for by some pregnant women; they are also loaded with salt like pickles and it is quite likely that you are craving for something salty and crunchy. A much better option would be to go in for low fat popcorn that is low in calories and fat.
• Pregnant women may have a craving for carbonated soft drinks especially if they are experiencing morning sickness; however it is best to avoid caffeinated drinks and instead go for ginger ale or Sprite.
• Coffee though prohibited by doctors is commonly craved by pregnant women who are in the habit for it; it increases alertness and decreases headaches and depression. However your doctor is the best person to decide about its desirability.
