Should We Stop Kids From Eating?

A call from my friend, kept me thinking. “She said; my son wants to eat the whole day, I’m really upset. Should I take him to a doctor?” I said, bring him home on Saturday and let me try talking to him.

Children are growing all the time – they need enough food to keep their metabolism up and going, which means it’s the age to get hungry.  Children have small stomachs that don’t’ stay full for a very long time.  When my daughter’ is at home, she would always want something to munch even while studying. But that doesn’t meant that you should give you child whatever she/he wants to eat especially on the snack shelf, but healthy food like nuts, fruits, baked biscuits, brown bread etc., can be eaten but preparation is very important – kids like everything colorful .

I meet Roy (my friend’s son) a bubbly, young brat. He talks his head off, before I can even start the topic, he asked me if I have some cookies so that we can eat and talk. I was surprised!  For an hour we were interacting, at the end I was knocked down – felt hungry.

This is what he said…..

  • Why should I not eat if my tummy pot is not full?

  • I love ice creams but I get only one a week

  • My mum keeps a bad face when I take something to eat

  • She holds my hand tight when we go for parties or lunch and doesn’t allow me to eat

  • My dad beats me if I ask for more

  • Am I fat?  No right? I’m 4 years old and 14 kgs, which is normal

  • Doctor gave me some syrup (bitter syrup) & mom forces down

He was such a sweet kid, promised me that he will eat all healthy food.  So, I think we parents shouldn’t worry much; we need to guide our kids and give them the right healthy food.
