So make sure of what to expect before you bring home a macaw as a pet.

Adorable characteristics of macaws:

Macaws are highly intelligent birds: A macaw can easily learn tricks and mimic a few words and sounds; they are the most intelligent of the parrot species that are also able to distinguish between shapes, colors and some can also manage a few simple math problems after several training sessions with a pet bird trainer. You should see it to believe it- they exhibit great intelligence during pet bird shows.

Macaws bond well with people and could consider them their flock: They consider their owner as their flock mate in the absence of other macaws as companions. They could bond well with you and become loyal when you endear them.

Macaws are very playful: Since macaws are very intelligent that are able to interact well with human beings; showing them their favorite toy could make them delight in playing with you. They are the best form of relaxation after a hectic day at work.

Macaws are beautiful with beautiful color patterns: Most macaws are very beautiful and attractive; the scarlet macaw is a prominent example that could put any colorful design to shame. It would be right to say that macaws are the parrot species that is very attractive.

Macaws are very noisy: Anyone that has a macaw as a pet would vouch the fact that they are one of the loudest pet birds. Their being loud has nothing to do with whether you keep them well entertained or well-fed. If you live in an apartment or have infants you would do best to not adopt them.

Macaws can be aggressive: This is particularly true if you manhandle them or do not properly house-train them. They have powerful jaws and could inflict a nasty wound from their bite. They are also notorious at lunging at people and biting whatever they get hold of.  So it is advisable to not leave young children unsupervised near them, however tame they are.

Macaws love to chew: Due to this natural characteristic, a macaw could easily chew its way out of a wooden cage or could chew away a wooden perch. They could easily chew their feathers if they have nothing to chew on. This could be easily avoided by giving the macaws some attractive bird toys to chew on.

You could consider yourself great by adopting a macaw, but they could be real troublesome; so while you shop for one do consider the adorable and detestable characteristics very carefully.
