Know All About Macaws Before You Adopt Them
It may seem to be a good idea to adopt a popular and large parrot variety like macaws; however macaws are not easy birds to adopt and you need to consider various aspects about this bird before you adopt one.
Consider the following aspects before you adopt a macaw:
• Macaws are birds that live for a long time, sometimes even 50 years; this would mean that you would have to be ready to take up a long time commitment to keep this bird in a healthy home.
• Macaws have strong wills and large and strong beaks; being bitten by large and strong beaks could really hurt. These difficult birds are mostly recommended for those that have experience with birds and not for first-time bird owners.
• Macaws are very intelligent and can be taught to talk and do tricks very easily; they would easily learn to dance, play dead, wave and somersault. Also these large birds love to chew and so it is best to provide them with plenty of toys to chew on and play.
• It is best to understand beforehand that it is best for you to set strict boundaries when you bring this popular bird home. Never allow this large bird to sit on your shoulder as it can turn very aggressive and you may not want to be bitten by its strong and large beak. Also beware they would scream, bite and even manipulate you to dance to their tunes.

• Never neglect these colorful and attractive large birds if you want peace; macaws need a lot of attention and would scream and even turn aggressive if you do not give them your time and attention.
• Providing a healthy atmosphere for your pet macaw means providing ample natural light, and plenty of opportunities to exercise by jumping, hanging and flying indoor; a sheltered aviary would also be a good idea. In addition macaws need a lot of fresh air; air pollution due to smoking can have drastic ill-effects in the macaw because with every breath they renew all the air in their lungs.
• Be prepared to not only satisfy your macaws need for time and attention, but also to keep them busy with toys to chew on and training. It is also interesting to note that macaws love showers with some being a one-person bird. Some are clownish, energetic, playful, while others could be nippy, aggressive or love to be cuddled.
• Macaws, the interesting and colorful large birds love to eat a variety of foods like pellets, seeds, beans, grains, fruits and vegetables; it is quite characteristic to see them eat periodically throughout the day and creating a mess around their eating area.
