It may seem cute and cuddly to adopt a rabbit, but this pet requires many hour of dedicated training, compromise and patience to make these animals trustworthy and comfortable with human companions. It is first best to know 6 main things that makes the adoption of rabbits enjoyable.

6 things you should know before you adopt a rabbit:

1) It is very important to know that rabbits are not pets for children as they are very fragile creatures and their backs could break and it could prove devastating if they are not properly handled or dropped. Even older children need to be supervised and told how to handle and care for rabbits; being an adult pet, rabbits are not recommended as classroom pet.

2) It is significant to understand that though rabbits require small spaces and can be kept in small apartments, they also need a lot of exercise and room to run and play. It is best to bunny proof a room and give them full reign in the room, with supervising them against unwanted chewing and bathroom accidents. Ensure you leave them out at least 2 to 3 time in the open to exercise and stay healthy.

3) Rabbits are cute pets that require a lot of attention; your day as the owner starts with giving them fresh vegetables and pellets, changing the water, putting some fresh hay, scooping out the litter box and cleaning the under pan. They need at least 3 to 4 hour of hop time including grooming and upkeep daily. You also need to ensure that there are no loud noises like yelling, arguing or music when the bunny is relaxing; this could stress the bunny.

4) Rabbits get along well with other existing pets though initially there could be some degree of territorial behavior. , but soon it would normalize. Having a companion animal with rabbit helps create an even temperament; rabbits get along great with cats as both are curious by nature. They should be separated from other pets in case of aggressive behavior.

5) Rabbits have varied diet needs; some of their favorite foods include carrots, cabbage, lettuce, collards, celery, bananas, pineapple, and mangoes. They should however not be given potatoes that are toxic, oxalic acid rich food like spinach and kale and seeds and nuts that harm their digestive system. Treats that contain seeds and honey could cause kidney and bladder problems. Rabbits need a liberal supply of timothy or oat hay to keep their digestive system healthy.

6) Lastly rabbits need regular vet care; find a vet dealing with rabbits before adopting one. A vet checks the rabbit regularly and takes care of spraying or neutering and the yearly check-ups. He would also attend to quality care in case of emergencies; make sure you can afford a vet before adopting a rabbit.
