Time for the holiday season and for Thanksgiving that is not only a harvest festival, but also a time to thank all those who have made us what we are today; as we all know contentment is very important and that is best done by thanking people on this day.

The 2 words, “Thank you” mean a lot both to the person who says it as well as to whom it is told; it motivates one to whom it is told and the one who thanks others feels the satisfaction of recognizing a favor done by another. Thanksgiving started off as a harvest festival of America, but now it is celebrated all over the globe and it is quite appropriate that children understand the idea and significance of the celebration of this festival as they should be aware of the emotions and sensitivities related to the festival.

Significance of Thanksgiving:

The real significance of Thanksgiving is that it is a time of family bonding, where all members of the family come over to a place and celebrate their union. Children are taught the importance of family values and respect to elders. The idea of living, eating and praying is instilled in the children; when relatives from different places come to celebrate their union with delicious food that is specially prepared for the occasion. It is more a celebration with dance, singing and other amusement.

It is a weekend when the family and extended family members cook a meal together; there is oneness in the family where the family enjoys home cooked food as compared to canned food that is brought from restaurants on other festivals.

Thanking God for everything

Thanksgiving is a festival of family values and traditions where family members are together; there is a lot of fun and rejoicing together where everybody sings, cook, play games and do activities together. In addition to being a day of fun and rejoicing, it is also a day to imbibe values and festive traditions in the young ones.

It is on Thanksgiving Day that elders teach children the way they should lead their life and tell them the importance of living. Also they share with the children their experiences and hardships they have faced in life and educate the young ones about the way they should shape their future life.

Lastly Thanksgiving is a day when we not only thank the Almighty for all we have got in life, but also thank our parents and elders to have been with us through our ups and downs. To sum up it is important that kids realize that thanksgiving day more than just a national holiday, but it has significance that makes it a celebrated festival worldwide.
