Leaving a crying child at a day care center and going to work can be hard on parents too, who would find it difficult to concentrate on work at office. You need not worry over your decision to go back to work; you could definitely tackle a crying child in a day care that would benefit both you and the child.

Ways to handle the crying of child at a day care center:

It is to be realized by you as a parent that some children miss being at home, while others adjust more quickly to a day care center. If your child continues to cry regularly it may be that this is not the day care for him as all children may not be happy with the same thing; changing the day care will help the child benefit from all the opportunities the day care offers.

It is best to understand that if you are happy with the daycare center and confident of the work-home balance, you child will adapt to the day care center more quickly. However you not being sure could leave the child also unsure, stressed and unhappy in the day care center.

Make an effort to show the child that you get along with the caregiver and trust her. It would help to request the same caregiver to take the child every morning and to keep something interesting for him/her to do immediately. Also ensure the day care staff knows the special words that would comfort and reassure your child. It would also help to send something familiar like a toy or book with the child when he/she goes to the daycare center.

Next figure out whether the stresses of actually seeing you leave is responsible for the child crying. You could arrange for the father to drop your child in the daycare center, so he/she feels you are safe at home. Alternatively tell the child you will be back at a time the child understands like “After you have had your afternoon nap and snack mummy will be here to get you”; the child will be assured.

Do not aggravate the child’s crying or confusion by leaving and coming back again. You could alternatively ring up after you reach office to make sure the child is OK. You could get a better idea of how your child’s day is going by going to see him/her at different unplanned moment without her/him seeing you. Some daycare centers have video cameras installed or live Internet feed by which you could view your child’s various activities from outside or in office.

If almost necessary with the cooperation of your boss and the childcare provider start the process of gradually settling your child into daycare all over again. Over the course of a week, gradually increase the time you leave the child at the day care till the child gets comfortable to spend the day in the daycare center.

As a last note, these ways would help your child to stop crying in day care center.
