How to ensure the safety of you kid at the swimming pool
Summer is here and thanks to global warming it is one of hottest we have ever experienced, throughout the world! Our primal instincts make us hit the water, be it a beach or a local swimming pool to escape the heat and cool down a bit. However, public swimming pools are not the safest for your kid. There are a number of hazards and it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your kid with these simple steps.
Know your pool
Most of us head to the nearest pool in our locality and jump straight in! The CDC or the Center for Disease Control and reported that 78.9% of all public pools in the US have at least one violation of safety or health risk. Research and find out if the water quality of your pool is within permissible limits before dunking your child!
Lifeguards ‘n safety gear
Lifeguards are life savers! A pool with a lifeguard is over 200% more safe than one without a watchful eye. Also, make sure that your pool has clearly demarked areas for deep waters and has a separate baby pool. Children who are beginners or do not swim should be given floating gear and the pool should have holders and lines for an emergency.
Educate!
You child should be given instructions not only about the pool etiquette but also about safety. They should be given the basic knowledge about how the pool works and why they shouldn’t wander away into the deep zone and mainly what to do in case of an emergency. Usage of lines and holding spots, as well as the danger of intake vents, should be explained.
Eyes on the child – ALWAYS!
No matter how safe the pool is or how watchful the lifeguard seems to be, always have your child in your eyesight. For children who are not strong swimmers or beginners, make sure that you always have them within your arms reach. Younger children have the tendency to intake a lot of water so always keep communicating.
Learn CPR!
This might sound a bit overboard but if you frequent the pool a lot, it is best to learn CPR for emergencies to not just your kid but for general safety. There are many CPR learning centers that teach how exactly to treat a child in case of an emergency.
Splash the summer heat away but do it safely!
