How To Create A Love For Studies In Your Child
Some children like to study, while others do not; a constant cause for worry for parents, but not if we all have found ways to create a love for studies in our children. Creating a love for studies in our children is tough, though not impossible when we follow certain ways to create this love.
Ways to create a love for studies in our children:
• Remove the mindset of your child that he/she has to study to do well in the exams and procure a job; education is to be embraced for its own sake and we as parents need to make studies interesting by discussing the subjects one’s child learns in school.
• Choosing a place for study that is free of noise and distraction, and is cozy, comfortable and well lighted is very necessary. In addition it is important that the study room or area is well organized with the desk having useful stationeries and other study materials. Taking the help of the child to select and organize the study area would create an interest in one to study.
• Make studying interesting for the child with shopping for cute notebooks, colorful pens, highlighters, and stickers; this would make the study room interesting, however ensure it does not become distracting.
• Your child would study better in a congenial atmosphere; ensure you switch off the computer/laptop, mobile, TV and also encourage him/her to do so if he/she has them. Also ensure the child closes the door of the room while studying and all family members do not chat/talk near the study room.
• Getting organized helps; make a regular routine for studies with the help of your child’s suggestions and stick to it. Set goals to keep your child motivated to finish his/her studies in time, but be ready to extend the time if they sincerely fail to reach the goal.
• “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” so make sure your kid has breaks between studies to have some fun and snacks; however these breaks should not be very long as a child will have difficulty in going back to studies.
• Be there for your child when he/she needs your help in studies and do not leave him/her alone while studying; this makes most children feel secure and motivated.
• Take the initiative to familiar yourself with your child’s study material; this would make you prepared to help young children in their studies, though older children may require other help.
• Most importantly acknowledge the hard work of your child in studies by praise, smiles, hugs and also small gifts. This would motivate your child to do better and also develop a sense of achievement in him/her.
Lastly tell your children about how you had fun in school; also make it a point to relate to the subjects they are studying and give real life examples and rest assured your child will be blessed with the love for studies.
