A very valid point of discussion; it is best to feed your baby a variety of foods before he/she reaches one year. Babies fed on a variety of fruits and vegetables before this age, start appreciating a lot of foods by the time they are six years old. Pediatricians even recommend feeding a baby allergen foods like peanuts and eggs before he/she is 1 year old.
Introduce foods to your baby that is clear of honey or choking hazards preferably as vegetable purees, rice cereal, pureed chicken or a wedge of water; try introducing a new food every three days and watch out for allergic reactions if any.

Few foods that you can offer your baby before 1 year:

Berries: Your baby will love beautiful bright red berries or dusky blue berries; serve them as finger foods or blend them into a puree in a blender and serve them as a spread on toast. Your baby will love it.

Onions, leeks, scallions and garlic: You would raise an adventurous eater by starting your baby on small amounts of onion, leeks, scallions, and garlic that is cooked; it acts as a flavor booster, adds savory quality to purees and makes for chunkier baby meals.

Salmon: Feed your baby salmon that contains DHA, an omega-3 fatty acid that is essential for cognitive development at least once a week. Serve younger babies cooked, flaked fish that is mashed into a puree or bread or bake it into a delicious finger food, salmon nuggets and serve it to older babies.

Peanuts: Feeding peanuts to babies even when allergic to actually prevents peanut allergies according to a recent study. Prevent choking hazards by not giving your baby whole peanuts or a spoonful of peanut butter; instead spread a little peanut butter on toast sticks as finger food or stir a bit into a puree. Peanuts should however be started only when your baby has tried and tolerated other more traditional foods; consult your pediatrician in case you have queries and concerns.

Whole grains: In addition to rice cereal, give your baby other cereals made of oats, quinoa, brown rice, or other whole grains; they not only contain more fiber but also more flavor.
Spinach, kale, chard and other leafy greens: Let your baby try and learn to relish leafy greens like spinach, kale, and chard; they are truly some of the healthiest foods on the planet. Your child will soon turn into an adventurous eater in the future.

Beef: If your family eats meat serve your baby beef pureed on its own or mixed with potato, sweet potato, or a green vegetable puree; it’s an ideal early food that is full of protein and zinc.

Squash: One of the baby food classic is mashed butternut squash; it is not only sweet but also packed with Vitamin A.

Lentils: Full of iron, they require no soaking like dried beans and blend well with a variety of savory add-ins, such as veggies, mild curry powder, and fresh herbs to provide a nutritious meal for baby.

Eggs: Eggs now recommended by pediatricians contain 6 grams of protein per egg in addition to healthy fats and choline for eyes. Make a perfect food by blending a scrambled egg with a vegetable puree, cutting up an omelet as a finger food, or chop a hard-boiled egg for easy eating.

In addition gradually introduce your baby to healthy foods like peaches, zucchini, lamb, kale, strawberries, oats, beets, basil and other herbs, pumpkin, and cheese in the course of time.
