Your baby is truly amazing; you could see certain changes as the baby grows, but certain facts are not visible to the human eye. Some such e significant facts are the increase in the weight of the baby, development of the taste buds and the eye-sight.

Have a look at these interesting facts that you may not know of your baby:

• You will be amazed to know that most babies lose some of their birth weight initially. You will soon find that your newborn starts gaining an ounce a day till the age of 6 months. Thereafter he/she gains 2-3 ounces a day till the age of 1 year.

• You would find that an average baby of 4 months doubles his/her birth weight. An 8 pound baby should weigh 315 pounds at 20 years!

• A baby grows 1 to 1 ½ inches every month every month, so a 20 year old will be 25 feet tall if he/she continues to grow at the same rate!

• The size of a newborn baby’s eyes is 75% that of adults but his/her vision is only 20/2400; it is rather blurry meaning they can see only objects that are a foot away. This could probably be the distance to your face during cuddling or feeding.

• However the vision of the baby at 6 months will be 20/20. According to experts you could as a parent help develop eye-brain connection by providing a lot of visual stimuli.

Weaning to salty taste
• A newborn can detect sour, bitter and sweet tastes; it is only at 4 months that the baby tastes salt as it is then that sodium-sensitive receptor proteins begin to emerge in the taste buds.

• The reason for this development of the salt taste lies in the development of the kidneys that start using sodium only when the baby is 4 months. This is an integral part of a child’s development and is not dependent on any factors during pregnancy.
