Life is so fast paced and time gets to be precious. As a working professional or with a family and young kids to take care off, you might not have the time to keep your home as clean as you would like it to be. This is where a housekeeper or home cleaning service comes in.

Part time and Full-Time Housekeepers

Housekeepers are normally individuals who can be hired part time or full time and are much cheaper than a house cleaning service. A part time housekeeper usually works less than 30 hours a week and will have many clients. Their hourly costs are generally higher as they add travel costs. A full-time housekeeper works upwards of 40 hours and their pay package will depend on if they are live- in housekeepers or live-out housekeepers.

How do you decide which type would be best suited to you? Here are a few tips…

What Needs Cleaning

If you need help with the day to day chores like laundry, vacuuming, dishes and cooking then a full-time help would be best. If vacuuming once a week, changing linens and getting the bathrooms done are all you need then you can go in for a part time housekeeper who comes in once or twice a week. Another pointer is if your home is 3 bedrooms or less, a part time housekeeper should be fine. If you are only adults at home or with teen children, then a part time help again works. Small children and pets will create a messier home and will need more laundry done and that could mean extra care.

Lifestyle

If you do a lot of entertaining then you should consider a full-time help. As an Indian family needing help, there might be a few more things you would look out for. While getting an Indian help who understands the cultural needs (especially if they are elders at home) might not be easy, you can ask around and share the services with another Indian family.

Duties and Additional Tasks

It will include the exhaustive tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing bathtubs, changing linens and generally seeing that all assigned areas are clean. Keep in mind that additional duties might mean extra costs and make sure the services you need is clear while interviewing itself. Cooking meals, pet care like taking the dog for a walk, grocery shopping and dropping off children at activities are a few services often asked for. And if you need all these services, it would be best to opt for a full-time help.

Finally, what you decide on depends on your budget. A full-time help may cost upwards of $25,000 a year.
