Checklist before boarding your dog at a Pet Care center
Dog owners very rarely have the heart to leave their dog behind and go off on a vacation. But every now and then one needs a break and not all holiday destinations are pet-friendly. Dropping your dog off at a pet care center is the most sensible thing to do whilst you are away. There are a number of centers that offer great care and ensure that your legged friend is in good health and spirits till you are back.
However, you can just drop your dog and walk away on the big day! Dogs are emotionally attached to their owners and need the right preparation before being separated even if it is for a few days.
Creating a familiar atmosphere
Dogs can get restless when they are away from their home environment. This feeling only intensifies with the absence of the owner. To avoid an emotional trauma for your dog and to save the kennel handlers from an upset pet, ensure that you do your bit to create a comfy and friendly atmosphere.
Wash your dog’s bed and leave it in the kennel along with your dog. Leave his favorite toy that might help reduce his stress due to separation. You can also leave a piece of your clothing since dogs are accustomed to their owner’s smell and it will help them sleep better.
Diet & medications
Most Kennels offer the choice of diet to suit any diet your dog is accustomed to. It is very important that you check in advance if this matches your requirement since some dogs can sulk when offered something new or not in their taste palate. Also, make clear notes of medications and explain it to the chief handler in person to avoid any confusion.
Label it up!
Dogs can get possessive over their belongings especially when other dogs are around. Label all of his belongings: bedding, bowl, toys and even tablet bottles! Make sure you mention both your dog’s name as well as your name on it for the benefit of the kennel staff.
Keep the papers ready
Most Pet Care centers accept dogs only when papers of vaccination are produced. Make sure your pet has received all of the shots for fleas, heartworms, rabies etc. and keep the papers ready for submission during admission. Also, ensure that you leave emergency contact numbers and a local contact to get to in case of dire emergencies.
Vacation kennels for pets offer a great experience for your pet too and most dogs would enjoy the little break from their routine. Explore pet care services for your dog now!
