I haven’t experienced any other celebration as special as a “Baby Shower”. It is a special celebration for a mom to-be.  Of course it’s all kept a secret until the day of celebration. Baby Showers can be arranged at any time, though it is mostly held in the third trimester.   It’s a day when the expectant mum would be showered with love and blessings.  The celebration is all about “her”.

Traditional Godh Bhara’s are replaced with Baby showers where the mom-to be need not wear the heavy saree and jewelry but something more modern where she feels comfortable. The fun-factor would be games during such events include estimating the diameter of the would-be mother, pouring strawberry sauce, mustard sauce, or melted chocolate in the diaper and then guessing it, having juices from feeding bottles and wrapping a member with a roll of toilet paper in a mock diaper etc.,.

Memories of my bump….

My hubby got me a lemon yellow dress with light blue polka dots – it looked bright and gorgeous! The theme and decorations were yellow and blue.  The hall looked so vibrant and beautiful.  Both my sisters were organizers for the games and gifts.  My friends gifted me a blue cradle with bows and blue ribbon all around the cradle…each of them read quotes of motherhood, parenting, baby tips, mother blues, moods & swings, short prayer, suggested baby names and what not.  I was skeptical to use it when my baby was born, it was creative!

My 3 year old niece gifted me a yellow duck in a blue tub and I remember her saying “Aunt – when is ducky baby coming out  :)

Wishes, gifts, blessings and loads of love were all over me on that day.  It’s a day I will always cherish; because my heart I decided that I  have just one baby and I wanted this baby shower to hold memories till I exist.  Atleast, once in a month I flip through the photos, sharing memories of happiness; my daughter loves to attentively listen when the topic is about her.   Motherhood is a blessing – you would agree with me!

Mum’s out there – How was your baby shower or godh bhara experience.  Like to know how did you feel and memories of that day?
