All About Selecting A Nanny For Your Infant

Most working and pregnant mothers feel happy at the prospect of having a baby; they are however worried at the prospect of finding a nanny that would care for their 6 week old infant.

Here are a few points worth considering:

• Financial reality check is the first step; this involves contacting commercial daycares in your locality that are ready to accept infant of 6 weeks. Surprisingly there are very few daycare centers that cater to 6 week infants; you may be lucky if you find at least 3 such commercial daycare centers.

• Next ask each of them at least 2 questions and keep a note of the answers. The first question should be regarding the length of the waiting list and weekly cost of care. The next question should be about the caregiver infant ratio. This would give the financial baseline and act as a guide regarding the excess cost you would have to pay for personalized childcare either your home or the home of the nanny.

• Next tell all the people you know that you are going to engage a nanny; friends, family as well as acquaintances. It is best to avoid sources like Craigslist or the newspaper; though nanny agencies could help in a right choice. You never know who would suggest that right person to care for your infant.

• The next step is deciding whether you would like to have a nanny come over or would you like to drop the infant at her place.  Visualize how you leave your home as you rush to work daily; also think over if you would like to have someone be at your home when you are away at work. It is also best to visualize leaving the infant in the nanny’s house as you work uninterrupted from home if it is a part of your work schedule.

• During the interview of the leads make sure the nanny is one that you like and one that likes your children. Most importantly make sure the nanny is not working for money alone; he/she wants to care for your infant rather than needs to.

• Lastly if you wish to leave the infant at the nanny’s house, make sure to visit her place.  Look out if the household has pets, whether the house is an own or rented one and if the house id clean throughout. Make sure everything is agreeable to you. Also ensure that there is a sleeping place for the infant and if the nanny is agreeable to follow all instructions regarding feeding, sleeping and diapering.
