Most parents wish to make the transition to regular school smooth and prefer to send their young children to play school for a few hours in a day or 3 days a week. All efforts must be made to make the transition from home to play school as smooth as possible.

Great tips to prepare your child for play school:

1) Attempts must be made to familiarize the child to the first unfamiliar face in school; it would be best to meet your child’s teacher and let your child play in the school playground before he/she starts going to school. This would make the child familiar with the teacher and the school playground.

2) Your child needs to get used to being away from you for a short while; it would help while you go grocery shopping to leave your child with someone at home. The child will then learn that you will return after some time.

3) Make sure your child knows at least a few children in the class he/she is enrolled; if this is not possible take a list of the class from the teacher, send e-mails or call parents and arrange for play dates. Arranging a few play dates would help children get familiar with one another before they start going to the play school.

4) It helps to get the child all excited with empowering her/him to carry one’s backpack; it would be great to pack a lunch of his/her choice and have comforting things like her/his favorite pillow, stuffed toy and an ice pack in the lunchbox.

5) Your child would feel great and in control of what one is eating if you allow her/him to choose one’s lunch; he/she can stand next to you and tell you the fruit, snack and juice one would like to be packed. This will also help the child to understand what is going to happen in the day.

6) Make going to play school a fun –filled experience for your child; give him/her full attention while going to play school and tell the child stories of what you liked while going to school as a small girl. Sing happy and energizing songs that fit into being happy at school; these emotions and feelings could be contagious for your child.

7) Open communication with your child to remove all her/his fears and apprehensions helps to make the child comfortable in play school; ensure the child that you would soon come to pick her/him  up after he/she has had an exciting time in school.

8) The last tip is let your goodbyes in school be short, simple and sweet; give him/her a hug and leave her/him in the hands of a capable teacher. Your child’s crying will only last longer if you linger too long.
