7 Ways To Be A Good Grandchild
Most of us today have our own differences with grandparents due to generation gap; however we could do our bit to cement this wonderful grandchild-grandparent relationship.
7 ways to be a good grandchild:
1) Grandparents may be old, cranky and disabled, but they are human beings that are to be respected for what they are; never forget to use the word, “please”, “thank-you” and “excuse me” in a polite tone whenever necessary. Make them feel happy by working on your tone to not be harsh.
2) Grandparents feel disabled with age and would definitely appreciate being helped by others; you could run small errands for them that make their life easier. It is also true that grandparents always appreciate the care given by their children and grandchildren; they would appreciate the support and attention when you extend a helping hand towards them.
3) Caring for grandparents also means being kind and considerate to them and being empathic to their pains and worries. You need to care for them when they are sick and weak and also visit them in the hospital where they may be admitted for their old age problems.
4) Grandparents’ views may differ from that of grandchild; however their views are definitely worth considering. Considering their point of view would give them happiness and make them feel wanted; you however do have a choice to consider or not consider their views.
5) It is very essential that you give your grandparents the respect and reverence they command; they have gone through happy as well as joyful experiences. Respecting them would not only enhance their self-esteem and confidence, but would also make them ready to offer advice when you need it. Next it is important to convince them by words and actions that they are a vital part of your life when seeking their advice; their long years of experience would definitely make them give you advice for the time-tested problems in life.
6) Grandparents may be cranky or undesirable at times, though they always mean best to you. Also never feel agitated if they embarrass you in front of your peers, just be calm. It is futile to shout at them or abuse them; instead trying to reason out with them in a calm fashion.
7) Try to be cool with your grandparents; they are after all your flesh and blood. When you try to understand your grandparents and do not make them feel victimized or alone they are also going to be happy to look forward to your visiting them and their visiting you. Also make it a point to spend some quality time with your grandparents if they stay with you; they would feel blessed as you would to have such good grandparents.
