7 Top Reasons To Interact With Elders
Having been a neighbor of an old couple for over a decade now, I would say it is great to interact with elders; elders fascinate us, amuse us, teach us and intrigue us.
Top reasons why you should interact with elders:
1) Elders take a longer time to do things; it may seem obsolete in today’s fast moving age, but makes us learn the art of patience from our elders at home and in the society. Interacting with elders makes us discover the art of meaningful communication; we could not only make them feel loved and wanted but also learn a lot from their grace and patience.
2) Interact with the elders in society and at home is essential, as their lives are fast vanishing and we may regret not having gained by their knowledge and experience once they are gone. Though they are slow and cranky, it is worth spending some quality time with them.
3) Books or movies could never give you better stories than the stories of an elderly person; these stories are full of life and reality and convey important life lessons to us. It is also significant that many elders have lived through the old historic times, with their stories being eye-openers to how they lived life during those difficult times.
4) I believe that interacting and with senior citizens helps to mentally stimulate them and keep them mentally agile. Our regular conversation helps them to remember, analyze and compute things that help them to be mentally alert and live long and productive lives. It is significant to understand that an unused brain withers faster, with spending more time leading to the use of their brain and a longer life.
5) Interacting with elders makes us think outside ourselves; we all need people to interact with and interacting with lonely, confused and scared elders’ means doing a great service to society. Investing some precious valued time with elders would help encourage them; you would be surprised by the joy and sense of satisfaction you would get for having transformed someone with your right attitude.
6) Looking at the elders so baffled and confused about technology, I think interacting with elders and teaching them all about technology, internet and e-mail helps; I have observed the joy, happiness and enjoyment many old people face when they learn how to communicate, read and enjoy the internet. The benefits of the computer is surely going to increase with times and educating and keeping elders well informed of all the developments helps.
7) Lastly interacting with elders gives us a chance to appreciate what they went through; it also makes us appreciate how good our lives are. Their hard lives or sacrifices have made us what we are today; surely their lives were much harder and demanding than what us today.
