A resume is the first contact between you and your employer and it should be carefully framed to set the best impression. It could be daunting to create a resume; however it is easy when you get started with including the essentials in a babysitter’s resume.

Include the following skills in a babysitter’s resume:

1) Education: The family comes to know you better when you include a list of your degrees you have earned with the name of the university/college. If you are still in school list your major and the year you will graduate. Do not miss on including relevant courses like childhood education that could create interest and spark a conversation.

2) Skills and qualifications: Ensure that you list all babysitting skills and qualifications like CPR certification, certified lifeguard and any first aid training. You may include other qualifications that the family would appreciate knowing about like tutoring skills, and cooking abilities. All skills dealing with health and safety are valuable skills for a babysitter to have.

3) Licensure: Be sure to list any licenses and certifications you have received; most babysitting courses give a babysitting certification or license at the end of the course.

4) Related work experience: List only your work experience relevant to babysitting or child health and safety. Ensure you include the work experiences the employer is looking out for the job; it could be any number, with the relevance to the job.

5) Responsibilities: Be sure to list some of the responsibilities you held in the job; list about 2-3 responsibilities for each job. If you are no longer working in the job ensure you use the past tense while listing it. Employers in need of an English or writing tutor may look out for a babysitter who has good grammar, spelling and proper punctuation on your resume.

Covering letter

6) Cover letter:  Ensure you include a babysitting cover letter with your resume if the family requests for it. Ensure that you express your interest in the job and why you want to work for the family in the covering letter. A covering letter should be of not more than 3 paragraphs and it should highlight some of your skills and qualifications.

The last and final word, be sure to list your qualifications and skills in an attractive fashion in the babysitters resume and the covering letter; it would be a powerful reminder of who you are and what you can provide even after the families have finished interviewing the candidates. It would help to include a profile photo with the resume and/covering letter to act as a visual reminder of you if they are interviewing a lot of candidates.
