6 Best Practice Games to Better Your Kid's Soccer Skills

Soccer has been quite a popular sport, but it requires perseverance and practice to master. Here are six soccer games you can play with your kid to make them the best at the game.

Gates

This is quite a popular choice, involving two equal teams. You will need a relatively big area to play this, preferably 25x25 yards. With the boundaries set in cones, you have to create four gates inside the area. The gates can be about 5 to 10 feet wide, as long as they have enough space for a soccer ball to go through. The game's main objective is for the players to pass and dribble the ball through these gates.

Hula Hoop

Start by demarking a big circle with cones. You can also use the center of a field. Each player should have a hula hoop and set them around the edges of the circle. With that set, get all the soccer balls in the middle of the circle. The main goal is for the players to get the balls back to their hula hoops. They can only bring one ball at once but are allowed to take balls from other players' hoops. With all the balls back, the game ends. You can either make this a time or point-based game.

King of the Hill

Start with a circle of cones and get each player inside the circle with a ball. They aim to remain in the circle with the ball for the longest. For that, the players will have to protect their balls and kick the rest out. This is an excellent practice for players to better their dribbling skills with the heads up while also practicing both defensive and offensive tactics.

Musical Balls

Evidently, from the name, it is quite similar to musical chairs, but with balls. You will have each player come with a ball to the center of the field. Make the players walk around the balls while playing some music. Once the music stops, they must rush towards the closest ball to them. The one who does not is out of the round.

Monkey in the Middle

This is a rather popular number in every soccer practice. Start with a circle of players and one ball in the middle. Pick out a monkey whose only objective is intercepting a pass from the other players. While the monkey cannot touch the first pass, every other one is fair game. If they can, the player whose ball they touched switches places with the monkey.

Three-way Pass

This is a rather easy-looking game but requires practice. Here you will have three players with three balls standing in a line. There will be an ultimate point which they have to touch and come back, all the while passing their ball to the person on their right. However, all this passing should be from in front of them.

These games will help inculcate the habit of passing the ball amongst players and enhance their dribbling skills as well.
