Many parents are of the opinion that it is all work and no play as far as parenting of a 6 month old baby goes; but I can tell you that it is lot of fun spending time with your baby when you do various activities that are not only enriching to the baby, but also help you spend quality time with the baby.

5 Enriching activities that you could do with your six month old:

1) It would make life interesting for you and your six month old, if you sing in a casual way; you could say the baby’s name in a sing song voice or you could sing songs about what you are doing. “Now we go down the stairs to the kitchen to have breakfast. Yummy there is chocolate cereal for breakfast. Yum, Yum, Yum.” Adding a lilt to your voice makes it not only interesting for the baby, but also helps lift up the mood of both you and your child.

2) You could add that special bit to singing by dancing with your baby to songs from your music collection. Make sure you hold the baby in your arms or carrier and sway side-to-side, bouncing up and down and going jungle, wiggle and boogie; it would not only raise your moods but would also make it interesting for the baby.

3) You can start reading right away to your baby of six months old; start with board books that have bright and contrasting pictures that catch the baby’s eye and can be chewed. You only need a few books to start with; start reading the book in a slow voice, using different tones and allow the baby to chew and bat the books around. The baby will love seeing the same pages again and again and would also learn in the process.

4) Bath and shower time can be made an enriching experience for a six month old by making the baby sit in a baby bath tub with water all around. Be near to supervise the baby and allow him/her to enjoy the gushing of water all around. He/she would settle down for a peaceful mood as the water starts getting higher; you would soon find the baby enjoying splashing the water while having a bath. Showers are also great for the baby and you as it gives you also a chance to take a bath as he/she enjoys splashing the water.

5) Lastly you could make running errands like going to the grocers or post office an enriching and stimulating activity; sing silly songs as you go around. Make it a point to talk to people in the store, point out interesting things and allow your baby to leisurely look around; this would make for great quality time together.
