The first important quality of a good caregiver is that he/she should be compassionate and understanding. He/she needs to learn the art of empathizing with the elder or the one he is giving care to. He/she would be able to give good care when he/she puts oneself in the position of the person needing care. They should be dependable in helping the elders and those that are sick in personal things like taking a bath, preparing their meals, going to the bathroom, and dressing up and brushing their teeth.

Thirdly an effective caregiver has to be really patient because care giving to elders and the sick is not as easy as many may suppose; you have to work real hard with the work being tiring and exhausting. Also many elders may be irritable and hard to deal with because of illness, and slow, difficult and painful movement.

Lastly a good care giver has to be amicable and adjustable to sudden changes in work schedule; he/she has to be flexible in all circumstances to unexpected changes in schedule, shift and client may occur anytime. At times you will be required to render overtime services because of your patient’s health condition; it is quite true that the work of care giving is best for people who can easily adapt to changes especially if it involves health of the patient.
