2nd grade books that you should read to your kid

Most 2nd grader kids have outgrown board books and nursery rhymes and enjoy advanced reading of chapter books. As they emerge as independent readers, it is very necessary to strike the right balance between challenging children with regards to the complexity of vocabulary, sentence structure and plot and building confidence as a reader.  Parents are advised to look for books with lots of humor and fun.



Here are some good stories targeted at the 2nd grader:



"Babymouse: Bad Babysitter" by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm


This 19th installment popular graphic novel series tells the adventures of Babymouse in babysitting; with plenty of familiar references especially to Mary Poppins, these books provide humor in Babymouse's new role.

This 2nd grader book is the funny story of a nerdy and mild mannered fly that acquires super powers and saves the day.

 The entire Geronimo Stilton series is a great choice for emerging independent readers; the humorous dialogue, many campy references, provide beautiful illustrations and interesting yet simple plots.

The series of girl’s mystery series features 8-year-old Nancy who solves simple, age-appropriate mysteries.

This book carries an environmental message in a kid friendly way, with Dr. Seuss books providing the perfect combination of easy-to-read text, loads of illustrations and simple concepts-

Last, but most important suggestion for parents of 2nd graders would be to get your kids books that focus on the topics of their interest. Once kids read stories that interest them, they will soon ask for more and more great stories.
