Many dads felt left out when it comes to the birth of a baby; the mother is busy nurturing the baby, with dads finding the bonding with the newborn overwhelming. However it is possible for the dad to also bond with the baby.

Some ways that helps dads to bond with newborns:

1.     Breast-feeding mothers are gifted to bond with the baby as they cuddle the baby close to their chest so that they have a perfect view into their eyes; dads can also follow this example and cuddle the baby when they bottle-feed the baby.

2.     Dads you could bond with the baby even if you are busy at work during the day by taking charge at night when he/she cries. You couldspend some quality time with the baby as the mum had some sleep.

3.     Most babies love fresh air and like to look around; so take your bundle of joy for a stroll either in a sling or in a stroller. A sling is better as it would keep the baby close to you.

4.     Mum need not always be the one to soothe his/her tears; try to soothe him/her by singing, walking him/her, gentle rocking or using a pacifier. All this would assure your baby that dad would also attend to her/his needs

5.     Changing diapers is not mum’s task alone; dads could also do it as it is a great time to bond. Even though you may find the task smelly and dirty, you would love the time spent talking to him/her and making silly noises and faces as you change.

6.     Yes making funny faces and noises helps make your baby laugh and smile at you; dads should play fun games like Peek-a-boo when the child grows older.

7.     Babies love massages; massages satisfy the stimuli of touch, soothe and relax the baby. This is best done when the baby is in a good mood.

8.     Make it a routine to spend some time playing with the baby once you come back from work; your little bundle would enjoy this time and look forward to daddy time once you reach home.

9.     Daddy time could also be time to dance and sing; just turn on the music and sway around the room with the baby when young. As the baby grows older and can stand you could help her groove her/his own moves in dancing.

10.                        Cleaning time at home could also be daddy time that would help the dad to bond with the baby; strap the baby on while you help with the cleaning. This would not only please the mum, but the baby also.

11.                         Dad’s can best bond with babies when they take a day off when the baby is sick; it would also be best to go for all health check-ups to make sure the baby is developing and growing properly.

12.                        Bedtime and bath-time could be also dad’s time, when the dad gives the bath and puts the baby to sleep.
