10 Important Things Parents Must Do Daily With Children
It was “Parents Time” at my niece's school. Parents realized the value of making a child feel loved and wanted; most parents understood that parenting was more than just giving children food, warmth, shelter and clothing and driving them to various classes and practices. Doing 10 important things daily for children made them feel valued and wanted.
Parents need to do these 10 important things to their child daily:
1) Help your child with studies: Wanting your child to excel in studies means that parents should involve themselves to the maximum extent in their child’s studies; even older children would perform better in academics when you consider it important to be with them.
2) Give your child hugs and kisses: This is the best way of showing your child that you love him/her; love and warmth affects the overall growth of a child and also makes a great impact on his/her personality.
3) Spend quality time with your child: Allot some time to spend exclusively with your children; also make it a regular practice to spend some time exclusively with each child when they can share things privately. It is very important for the child’s growth and development and helps in bonding.
4) Talk to your child daily at night: Spend time before or after dinner to talk to your child about things like school, weekend, family, love and play; night talk helps in building a strong parent-child bond.
5) Set a good example: Children learn good manners and behavior by seeing their parents daily; practice what you preach to your children in action, behavior and words.
6) Read to your child or encourage him/her to read: Read anything to your child daily; it could be the newspaper or a story book. Encourage your older children to build the habit of reading. Reading daily builds up your child’s vocabulary and general knowledge.
7) Encourage healthy lifestyle: Children need to be encouraged to follow a healthy lifestyle by serving them healthy and nutritious food right from childhood; in addition they should also be taught to follow hygienic habits and exercise to keep healthy and fit.
8) Listen to your children: It is very important to listen patiently to your children when they return from school or play. This would make them feel secure and important and they would also realize the importance of giving you a patient listening.
9) Observe discipline on a day-to-day basis: Setting day-to-day rules for discipline is very important for the overall development of your child; the child needs to understand what is to be done and what not. You should not be too strict or force discipline.
10) Assign age appropriate household chores: Allotting daily household chores according to the age of the child would not only make him/her more responsible but would also build a pride in them for being a part of the running of the household.
Parenting with these 10 important things would be a source of happiness and lifetime lasting benefits.
