I started Beanstalk I had one very simple philosophy: provide an environment where children can feel safe, be happy and have fun with great learning materials. Beanstalk I give children the opportunity and the time it takes to accomplish tasks pouring without spilling, putting things back where they found them, using a favorite Montessori material for as long as they want---to name a few! They get to choose what they want to do instead of being told, yet they have to respect the materials, books, teacher, other adults and of course other children in the classroom. Chances are this is all new to them. We ve had our share of the battle of the wills in the classroom let me tell you! But it always ends on a positive note, with a lesson learned in listening or compromising.
